  1. Viral hepatitis affects 325 million people worldwide and claims 1.4 million lives per year, despite a vaccine and effective treatments for hepatitis B (HBV) and a cure for hepatitis C (HCV). In Vietnam, viral hepatitis is the third leading cause of death, with 8 million new infections annually from HBV and HCV combined. HepLINK, a new PATH initiative in partnership with The Hepatitis Fund (EndHep2030), demonstrates a model of decentralized and integrated viral hepatitis service delivery in support of Vietnam's goal to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030. This fact sheet provides an overview of the project and its intended outcomes.

  3. The DMPA-SC Resource Library has been developed to provide comprehensive information on the self-injectable contraceptive subcutaneous DMPA (DMPA-SC, brand name Sayana® Press). The site features evidence, country introduction experiences, service delivery and advocacy tools, and more for global- and country-level family planning implementers and decision-makers.It is hosted by the Injectables Access Collaborative, an initiative led by PATH in partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), inSupply Health, Jhpiego, and JSI. The Access Collaborative provides data-driven technical assistance, coordination, resources, and tools to ensure that women and girls have increased access to DMPA-SC and self-injection as part of an expanded range of contraceptive methods, delivered through informed choice programming. For more information, sign up for our mailing lists or contact FPoptions@path.org.

  4. A strong health system must be able to monitor quality of care and work to improve it to achieve better health outcomes. It can be further strengthened if the culture is such that health care workers, patients, and community members are empowered to take action towards improving their health services. However, the complexity of health care systems makes it difficult to identify whether health facilities are meeting targets, where they fall short, and how they can improve service delivery. Continuous quality improvement (CQI) refers to an iterative, data-driven process of empowering health care workers to improve health service delivery by identifying problems, implementing solutions and monitoring efforts to improve care, then measuring the effectiveness of these efforts. This brief details PATH's approach to CQI.

  5. Clinical decision support algorithms (CDSAs) are digitized tools that combine an individual’s health information with the health worker’s knowledge and clinical protocols to assist in making diagnosis and treatment decisions. They analyze patient data, providing prompts and reminders that help health care workers deliver a range of services within a continuum of care.Despite several initiatives underway around the use of these digital tools in low-resource settings, there remains a lack of awareness of their impact and cost-effectiveness at the national level, as well as a growing need to streamline how health data is collected and used for decision-making. Though more research is needed, initial evidence suggests that CDSAs can reduce barriers to quality of care and, ultimately, health disparities, leading to greater health impact. This fact sheet summarizes key considerations that countries, implementing partners, and donors should keep in mind when planning for CDSA implementation. It also describes the work PATH, as part of its Tools for Integrated Management of Childhood Illness initiative, is leading to adapt CDSAs for country context and incorporate them into health systems to enable better and more targeted patient care.
