  1. Microarray patch (MAP) technologies can address the need for improved presentations of vaccines and pharmaceuticals. The PATH Center of Excellence for MAP Technology is working to advance MAP development for high priority needs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). A key element of this work is evaluating global health use cases and understanding potential usability, acceptability, and programmatic fit of MAPs for specific applications and use cases, including rabies, HPV, and outbreak response. This report describes the user and program needs activities that have been conducted as part of the MAP Center of Excellence and includes a high-level summary of the results for different applications and lessons learned that are relevant for the MAP platform as a whole.

  2. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for oxygen and other respiratory care supplies and equipment around the globe. In response, PATH conducted a biomedical equipment survey in 29 designated COVID-19 treatment centers across 13 of 14 regions in Senegal. The purpose of this survey was to quantify existing oxygen delivery and production equipment, consumables for administering oxygen therapy, bed capacity, and facility infrastructure characteristics that are relevant to providing respiratory care. The results indicated that intensive care unit bed capacity was a key constraining factor to oxygen therapy, and there was significant scarcity of oxygen delivery equipment across Senegal, with available oxygen equipment often totaling far less than the number of reported beds. This report summarizes observations from the collected data and is intended to help global and national stakeholders understand COVID-19 treatment capacity in Senegal.

  3. The Global Fund Prospective Country Evaluation (PCE) is an embedded mixed-methods evaluation platform designed to examine the Global Fund business model, investments, and contribution to disease program outcomes and impact in eight countries. The PCE generates timely evidence to support program improvements and accelerate progress towards the objectives of the Global Fund 2017-2022 Strategy. The 2020-2021 Annual Report presents findings from the grant cycle analysis which examined what, when, why, and how grants approved through the New Funding Model 2 (NFM2; 2017-2019 funding cycle) changed over time, including significant factors that influenced the implementation of changes to the original grant. Additionally, the report includes findings on how the NFM3 (2020-2022 funding cycle) grant design process was informed by lessons from NFM2.The 2021 Extension Phase Report presents findings from a three-month extension of the PCE that focused on a deeper analysis of several areas within the grant cycle analysis, including: grant revision and lessons learnt from the Global Fund’s response to COVID-19, investments in health systems support and health systems strengthening, uptake of new RSSH coverage indicators, and drivers of budgetary shifts in RSSH and equity-related investments during NFM3 grant making.
