In 2015, when PATH began advocating for R&D in Kenya, it became clear that there was no real constituency for these efforts—individual organizations focused on advocating for specific health priorities. One strong, unified coalition of advocates was needed if the country was to successfully advance R&D advocacy

Uganda recognizes immunization as key to achieving universal health coverage, as evidenced by its inclusion as a major strategy to achieve the Ministry of Health Sector Strategic Plan (2021/22-2025/26) objective of reducing VPDs. To achieve the country’s immunization goals, the government has implemented activities aligning with ADI commitments under the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization (UNEPI). When it comes to assessing the success of these activities and the country’s progress on advancing immunization commitments, Uganda is trailblazing new efforts to boost compliance with ADI commitments, including through the development of a scorecard to enable accountability for upholding immunization commitments.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to disastrous socio-economic implications. To understand the impact of the pandemic on various aspects and highlight the centrality of mental health in an individual’s life. ETI and PATH collaborated to release a white-paper series 'Breaking the Barriers: Pathways to addressing mental health and long-COVID impact in India. The COVID-19 pandemic defined 2020 for PATH and for the world. As COVID-19 case numbers grew over the first half of the year and access to routine health services decreased, we knew we needed to act quickly to help protect health equity for all. The health of our communities—as well as the hard-won gains of the past several years of health advocacy—were at risk. With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PATH pivoted many of our planned efforts to focus on protecting essential health services and helping governments respond to the pandemic—all while keeping our goals for the future top of mind. This case study highlights some of the new tactics we took on, and lessons learned, in this unprecedented year.
