What we do
Diagnostics are the cornerstone of universal health coverage, emergency response, and population well-being. They are indispensable for guiding clinical decisions, averting drug resistance, bolstering disease surveillance, and raising early alerts of potential pandemics. Unfortunately, more than half of the world's population lacks access to even the most basic diagnostic tools. In many regions, these critical diagnostics are either entirely absent where patients seek treatment or too expensive or resource-intensive for local healthcare systems.
For over 3 decades, PATH has collaborated with partners across the full diagnostics ecosystem to develop and commercialize appropriate, affordable, quality-assured diagnostics for conditions that disproportionately affect people in low-resource settings. With a global presence and country-specific capabilities, PATH is accelerating the delivery and accessibility of essential health products, ensuring that no one is left behind on the path to better health.
We ensure that developers have the tools to advance appropriate, quality-assured diagnostics that meet pressing public health needs. We do this by creating an enabling ecosystem for R&D and product adoption. This includes creating specimen panels and antibodies, product testing, conducting post-market surveillance, and supporting the introduction of new diagnostic tools and approaches with quality assurance programs and methods.
Through operational, user, and lab-based research, we facilitate the generation of actionable evidence at each step of the diagnostics development life cycle to ensure that solutions are context-appropriate, user-driven, and perform as required. Rigorous evaluation of prototypes before advancing their development ensures that useful, high-quality products enter the market.
We collaborate with ministries of health, technology companies, manufacturers, and implementation partners to develop and scale fit-for-purpose digital diagnostic solutions that inform decision-making, patient care, usability, and surveillance and reporting within the broader digital health ecosystem.
We combine market access capabilities with broad technical expertise in developing and scaling innovative diagnostics solutions to ensure product viability, sustainability, and sound investment decisions. We help to identify alternative mechanisms to increase and strengthen the supply of diagnostics in low-resource setting markets through market interventions and support for local manufacturing and distribution.
Partnering with ministries of health and national regulatory authorities, we help stakeholders to understand and determine diagnostic needs and financing mechanisms required to support informed decision-making.
