Sanford M. Melzer, MD, MBA

A pediatric hospital medicine specialist and physician executive, Dr. Sandy Melzer’s career has included the care of hospitalized children and leadership roles in clinical service line development, strategic planning, business development, regional systems of care, and population health. During a 25-year tenure at Seattle Children’s Hospital ending in November 2019, he served in a number of key executive roles, including Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer (2005–2015) and Executive Vice President (2015–2019). Dr. Melzer currently serves as a trusted advisor and consultant to hospitals, health systems, and medical technology companies, focusing on business strategy and new product development.

Dr. Melzer received his MD from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, MBA from the University of Washington, and BA from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Retired Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Health Services in the UW School of Public Health.

Dr. Melzer’s community activities include past service on the Boards of the Pacific Science Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Jewish Family Service of Seattle. At PATH, he is the Chair of the Finance Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee and Governance, Impact and Responsibility Committee.
