Nguyen Tuyet Nga, MD, PhD
Dr. Nguyen Tuyet Nga is PATH’s country director for Vietnam. She leads a broad portfolio of projects that focus on vaccines and immunization; infectious diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria; noncommunicable diseases including heart disease and diabetes; infection prevention and control and antimicrobial resistance; and health systems strengthening via digital tools, improved data and data use culture, and strengthened primary health care. Nga also leads on regional programs that provide support to health systems and providers in Cambodia, Laos, and other countries in the region.
Nga is a medical doctor with particular experience in epidemiology, infectious disease control, vaccine development, and immunization programs. She has more than 25 years of experience in vaccine development and production (including clinical trials and licensing), immunization programming, infectious disease control including for HIV and tuberculosis, and in leading teams that promote use of digital solutions and data for more effective, efficient, and resilient health systems.
Nga has been working with PATH since 2009, working as a technical advisor and in program management roles across PATH’s vaccines and immunization, tuberculosis, and digital solutions and data portfolios. Nga became the Vietnam Program Team Leader in 2014, the Deputy Country Director in 2018, and the Vietnam Country Director in 2019.
Before joining PATH, Nga was the head of Research and Development Department at VABIOTECH, one of the largest vaccine companies in Vietnam, and worked as a researcher in National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology. She holds an MD from Hanoi Medical University, a PhD in Epidemiology from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, and completed post-doctoral training in emerging infectious diseases from the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
