Helen McGuire, MHSc
Helen McGuire is PATH’s global program leader for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). For nearly 40 years, PATH has been a pioneer, raising the global profile of critical health challenges and priming innovations for scale. PATH is leveraging this capacity to advance prevention and care for noncommunicable diseases in low-resource settings, focusing on diabetes, hypertension, breast and cervical cancer.
Under Helen’s leadership, PATH has a growing NCD portfolio including integration of hypertension into PEPFAR/USAID platform in Kenya; improving access to hypertension diagnosis and care in Vietnam; and building the evidence and advocating for availability of affordable essential medicines and technologies for NCDs with release of a global landscape report and early studies completed in Kenya and Senegal. Strategies include digital health solutions, social enterprise partnerships, workplace wellness and unique access points to care. Most recently and with the support of stakeholders and partners, Helen led the establishment of the Coalition for Access to NCD Medicines and Products launched in 2017 alongside the UN General Assembly.
For over 20 years Helen has worked on health system innovations globally, and she is committed to improving access to prevention, treatment and care for NCDs through innovative approaches and partnerships. Helen is a registered nurse and holds a a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters in Health Science specialized in health administration from the University of Toronto, Canada.
