Emmanuel Mugisha, PhD, MPH

Dr. Emmanuel Mugisha leads PATH’s Typhoid Vaccine Acceleration Consortium (TyVAC) and serves as a Senior Technical Advisor on Immunizations.

In this role, Dr. Mugisha leverages decades of leadership experience and expertise to increase uptake of typhoid conjugate vaccines as part of an integrated approach to typhoid prevention and control.

Dr. Mugisha is a champion for vaccines as a tool for disease prevention, specializing in vaccine clinical trials, new vaccine introduction, and implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. He is a supporter of data-driven, bottom-up solutions to strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries.

He has nearly 30 years of public health and management experience, including work in HIV/AIDS, and his work has spanned the African region.

Before joining PATH in 2006, Dr. Mugisha served in various organizations in different capacities, such as Study Coordinator for the first African HIV vaccine trial with the Joint Clinical Research Centre (funded by the US National Institutes of Health). Subsequently, he served as the Senior National Program Officer for the second HIV vaccine trial implemented by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative.

Dr. Mugisha holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in health systems from the University of South Africa.
