August 5, 2024 by PATH

PATH has been selected to host Dr. Zanma Michaël John Compaore, a Mandela Washington for Young African Leaders Fellow from Burkina Faso.

PATH is thrilled to announce that it has been selected to host Zanma Michaël John Compaore, MD, MPH, a Fellow from Burkina Faso in the 2024 Professional Development Experience component of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. The fellowship will take place from August 5 to August 30, 2024, and is sponsored by the US Department of State.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), empowers young African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, networking, professional opportunities, and local community engagement.  YALI was created in 2010 and supports young Africans as they spur economic growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Compaore to PATH as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship," said Kammerle Schneider, Chief Global Health Programs Officer at PATH. "We look forward to exchanging knowledge and experiences that will contribute to strengthening health systems in Africa and beyond."

Since 2014, the Mandela Washington Fellowship has supported nearly 6,500 alumni from across sub-Saharan Africa to develop their leadership skills and foster connections and collaboration with US professionals.

One hundred Mandela Washington Fellows have been competitively selected to take part in the 2024 Professional Development Experiences (PDEs)—four-week professional placements with US nongovernmental organizations, private companies, and government agencies. PDEs allow fellows to learn and grow as young professionals while providing enriching opportunities for US organizations to participate in collaborative exchanges.

“At PATH we are committed to building diverse talent pipelines for the future,” said Levis Nderitu, Global Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at PATH. “We are thrilled that Dr. Compaore will be joining us for his Professional Development Experience, as he builds his leadership skills and capabilities to better serve his community and solve complex global health challenges.”
