PATH selected as health information systems lead in Africa CDC mpox initiative
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has selected PATH to partner on health information systems as part of its continental response to mpox.
Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, December 11, 2024—The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has selected PATH to lead critical efforts to strengthen health information systems as part of its continental response plan for addressing mpox in Central Africa.
Starting in December 2024 , this initiative will work to strengthen regional health systems through improved data integration, cross-border surveillance, and digital transformation of health information management across Central Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)—the epicenter of the current outbreak—will serve as the initial point of focus , with plans to expand to other high-priority countries across the region.
By serving as the technical lead on health information management, PATH will support health authorities across targeted countries in sharing critical outbreak data more efficiently. PATH will also train local health officials and standardize data-sharing protocols to enable rapid, coordinated responses across borders.
“This initiative represents an important step in building resilient health systems across Africa,” said Fatou Fall, PATH’s Africa Regional Director for Digital Health Senegal. “With Africa CDC’s leadership, PATH is committed to advancing digital health capabilities and strengthening regional capacity to address the current mpox crisis and future health emergencies.”

In addition, PATH will collaborate with Africa CDC to develop a continental health information system, including a regional dashboard. This data-driven approach will equip health authorities with timely insights to make informed decisions and take proactive measures.
We invite partners and stakeholders to support this critical effort to bolster health information systems across Africa, in alignment with Africa CDC’s vision for a well-coordinated and data-driven public health response.
