PATH scored as High Performer in GH5050 gender equality index

July 12, 2023 by PATH

In Global Health 50/50's 6th annual report into the global health sector's gender-related policies and practices, PATH has been scored a High Performer, with trend performance categorized as a Consistently High Performer.

The 2023 report, Workplaces: Worse for women, takes an in-depth look at workplace sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) policies alongside an annual analysis of 197 organizations’ gender-related policies and practices.

This year's report finds workplaces are worse for women due to little or no consideration of how women’s health–such as periods, menopause and fertility–can and should be supported by inclusive workplace policies and practices.

Overall, the 2023 report finds that SRHR policies are scarce and/or inaccessible:

  • Just one organization reported having a menstrual leave policy and only four have policies or practices that support women going through menopause.
  • Only 22 organizations reported that financial assistance and/or medical benefits are available to staff to facilitate access to fertility treatments.
  • 21 organizations reported having a policy and/or offering resources to staff experiencing violence at home (WHO estimates that more than a quarter of women have been subjected to violence from an intimate partner).

"Amidst these serious and concerning findings in GH5050's latest report, PATH is proud to score as a High Performer in their gender equality index," said Levis Nderitu, PATH’s director of global diversity, equity, and inclusion.

"Diversity, equity, and inclusion is a priority for PATH, both internally and in our health programming around the world."

The gender equality index analyzed eight variables, including: commitment to gender equality; workplace gender equality policy; and board diversity and inclusion policy; among others.

"The gender equality index variables are critical, and for PATH, they aren't just another data point. They represent whether or not our organization values respect, equity, and justice," Levis said. "It's encouraging to be recognized for these efforts. With that being said, we know we are far from perfect, so we continue working to be more equitable every day."
