PATH is pleased to share our new 2023-2025 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy, which was developed to help the organization fulfill its vision to become a curious, collaborative workplace where the status quo can be challenged, new ideas are embraced, and different perspectives are valued.

The new strategy focuses on the following strategic priorities:

  • People: PATH will diversify at all levels by accelerating the representation and development of diverse talent, cultivating inclusive leadership, and creating a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and belonging.
  • Business Practices: PATH will build equitable business practices in procurement, people, and communication functions by establishing inclusive policies, eliminating structural bias, and leveraging transparent communications to drive change.
  • Programming: PATH will design our products and programs with—not just for—the communities we serve, embed equity (including gender) in our public health programs and partnerships, and become a catalyst for change in the sector.

“Since PATH created the 2021–2023 DEI Strategy, the world has changed and so have we. PATH staff have become more diverse, more global, and younger at all levels. Remote and hybrid work has become the norm; human connections, culture, and collaboration have become challenging—yet needed. Our donors and communities are demanding greater accountability and leadership from us,” says Levis Nderitu, PATH’s Director of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. "Our new reality requires new ways of leadership, cross-cultural collaboration, and talent management."

The new strategy builds on PATH’s experiences implementing DEI initiatives over the past several years, and it incorporates staff feedback from across our global team.

“With these new insights and important contributions our staff have shared, we must pivot to focus on areas where we can have the most impact. The new strategy reflects this shift on a new what and how, yet it stays steadfast to PATH’s why,” Levis says.

With significant global public health challenges on the horizon, from the impact of climate change, protracted conflict, and ongoing disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, among others, PATH is committed to iterating, optimizing, and reimagining our DEI strategy so we can deliver sustainable, demand-driven health interventions to the communities that need them most.

“This new strategy sets us up to be able to attract and retain the best talent, gain competitive advantage in our projects, programs, and proposals, and build trusted relationships with the communities we serve,” says Levis.

PATH’s three DEI strategic priorities—people, business practices, and public health programming pillars—represent a renewed emphasis on DEI commitments and a new set of goals to work toward.

“If we want to succeed, at PATH and across the sector, we must all be curious to invite different perspectives; collaborate with each other and our partners to solve complex global health challenges; and co-create a culture of belonging where everyone thrives,” says Levis.
