PATH names Anthony Okoth as Country Director for Kenya office

PATH is pleased to appoint Mr. Anthony Okoth as Country Director for Kenya, one of PATH's largest country programs. Based in Nairobi, Okoth will oversee PATH's work with local and national governments, community organizations, civil society, and the private sector, leading a team that improves the health and wellbeing of Kenyans by addressing HIV/TB; maternal and child health and nutrition; non-communicable diseases; sexual and reproductive health and rights; health systems improvement; and digital health integration.

"His extensive network and deep understanding of East African health issues, markets, and the policy landscape will help us accelerate our local-to-global health impact."

For two decades, PATH has been assisting Kenya's health's sector through collaboration with a wide range of partners. We built our core strength in adolescent and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programming. Other accomplishments include improving health outcomes for women and children, integrating HIV/TB prevention, strengthening health information systems and helping to prevent and manage non-communicable diseases. More recently, we've focused on integrating digital health and other new technologies for health systems.

Okoth will be a key leader in global innovation efforts in the East African ecosystem, collaborating with academia, government, multilateral donors, the private sector, incubators, and nongovernmental organizations to commercialize, roll out, and scale up the use of devices, diagnostics, drugs, vaccines and program in public health settings.

Before joining PATH, Okoth served as Chief Executive Officer for Population Services Kenya (formerly PSI Kenya), an independent, local organization that works with the Ministry of Health, development partners, and the private sector to strengthen health markets and address the most serious health challenges affecting resource-poor and vulnerable Kenyans. He also serves as Chief of Party on the USAID-funded Health Communications and Marketing Program and is a member and co-founder of the Kenya Health Leaders' Forum which brings together 10 leading organizations that contribute over $150 million annually to the health sector in Kenya. Okoth's 22 years in public health and medical sales include engagements with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceutical Division, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Division, Eli Lilly, and GlaxoWellcome.

Okoth holds an MBA from Daystar University in Nairobi, a post-graduate diploma in project planning and management from University of Nairobi, a BSc Biological Sciences from Punjab University, and a certificate in nonprofit management from Harvard Business School.
