PATH condemns violent insurgency in Washington, DC

January 7, 2021 by PATH

We are deeply disturbed by yesterday’s events in Washington, DC. PATH is unequivocally committed to democratic rights and principles and condemns the racism-fueled violence and threats to overturn the democratic process.

Violence and insurrection weaken democratic systems, incite fear, and diminish trust. Now is the time for US leaders to recommit to the principles they work to defend and hold insurgents and those who encourage them accountable for their actions.

As an implementing partner, many of our projects bear USAID’s logo affirming “Aid from the American people.” PATH is proud to display this emblem of democracy, rule of law, and tolerance. We hope for a peaceful transition of power in the coming days and we stand ready to partner with newly elected leaders in Washington to ensure that America’s values and commitment to democratic ideals are upheld here in the United States, and in our work globally.
