PATH's immunization supply chain and service delivery experts present at the 17th TechNet Conference in Panama.

PATH joined approximately 300 immunization experts from around the world at the 17th TechNet Conference on vaccine supply chain and immunization service delivery, held in Panama City, Panama, October 16 through 19, 2023.

The TechNet biannual conference focuses on the latest developments in immunization practices and policy and includes organizations such as: Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the World Health Organization; and UNICEF. This year, the conferences theme was “Immunization Programs That Leave No One Behind” based on the Immunization Agenda 2030 Strategic Priorities.

PATH is serving as a member of the TechNet Conference organizing committee beside representatives from the Gavi Immunisation Supply Chain Strategy Steering Committee (ISC2), and PATH vaccine technology experts moderated sessions and presented learnings across the field:

Data and research for decision-making and implementation

  • Assessment of the programmatic suitability and user acceptability of packaging and delivery devices for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants. Dr. Manjari Quintanar-Solares, Courtney Jarrahian.
  • Assessing the supply chain costs of microarray patches versus vial presentations for measles-rubella and typhoid conjugate vaccines to inform target product profile choices. Mercy Mvundura, Shan Hsu.
  • HPV vaccination implementation: Challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned. Dr. Sandeep Kumar.
  • Landscape analysis of health information systems and data tools for identifying, reaching, and monitoring zero-dose and under-immunized children. Allison Osterman.
  • Exploring implications of a vaccine wastage study in three countries. Mercy Mvundura, Joanie Robertson.

Immunization systems strengthening and primary care integration.

  • Addressing climate change in immunization programs. Procurement and electric power environmental considerations: Steven Diesburg.
  • Challenges, considerations, and sustainability of autodisable syringe supply chains. Elizabeth Griffin.
  • Freeze Preventive Cold Boxes: Lessons Learned from a Field evaluation in Nepal. Dr. Sandeep Kumar.
  • HPV Vaccination Revitalization: The Road to Recovery from the Covid-19 Pandemic. Dr. Sandeep Kumar.
  • On the verge of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease prevention: An immunization pipeline to protect in early life. Joanie Robertson, Jessica Flemming.
  • Solutions to address primary health care cold chain and integration bottlenecks. Joe Little.

New vaccine technologies and innovations

  • Vaccine delivery technologies on the horizon. Courtney Jarrahian, Priscilla Kwarteng.
  • Vaccine microarray patches: An alliance to achieve impact. Courtney Jarrahian, Mercy Mvundura, Jennifer Foster.
  • Human factors evaluation of two measles and rubella vaccine microarray patches in Kenya: Jennifer Foster.
  • Assessment of the supply chain and program value of a combined blow-fill-seal container and dropper for novel oral poliovirus vaccines. Dr. Manjari Quintanar-Solares.
  • Prototyping solutions to maintenance system challenges. Joanie Robertson.

PATH's exhibit "Vaccine delivery technologies on the horizon” featured devices, tools, and solutions focused on supply chain and immunization delivery, including microarray patch technologies (MAPs), new compact prefilled autodisable devices (CPADs), and more.
