PATH is delighted to join representatives of African parliamentarians at the upcoming 16th Network of African Parliamentary Committees on Health (NEAPACOH) meeting and looks forward to contributing meaningfully to these important discussions.

Representatives from over 30 African parliaments and partners are set to convene in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from March 5-7, 2025, for this significant gathering.

The 16th NEAPACOH meeting aims to create a forum for examining and repositioning the role of parliamentarians in implementing the unfinished International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda and achieving universal health coverage (UHC). The meeting will specifically focus on domestic financing for health, progress on the health of women, children, and adolescents in the Africa region, non-communicable diseases and immunization funding, progress towards UHC, and harnessing the demographic dividend for socio-economic transformation.

PATH session:
Sustaining Health Gains: Strengthening MNCH and Immunization Financing for Resilient PHC Systems

During the meeting, PATH will engage policymakers in discussions on strengthening domestic health financing, enhancing accountability, and improving service delivery for MNCH and Immunization. The PATH-led session titled "Sustaining Health Gains: Strengthening MNCH and Immunization Financing for Resilient PHC Systems" aims to:

  • Highlight the current status of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) and immunization financing in Africa, including progress, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Explore strategies to mobilize domestic resources and improve the efficiency of health financing.
  • Strengthen parliamentary engagement in advancing sustainable financing mechanisms for MNCH and immunization.
  • Facilitate commitments from policymakers to advocate for increased budget allocations and policy reforms.

Through this dedicated session, PATH seeks to increase awareness among parliamentarians on the critical need for sustainable MNCH and immunization financing while securing concrete increased domestic funding commitments from the policymakers.

Furthermore, the session intends to strengthen partnerships among stakeholders to support essential health financing reforms and to develop actionable recommendations for governments to improve budget allocations and policy frameworks, ultimately leading to enhanced health outcomes.
