PATH and partners launch new medical oxygen online course
PATH Malawi partnered with the Malawi Ministry of Health and the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi to develop an online course on medical oxygen delivery.
Lilongwe, Malawi—In response to the rising global need for effective medical oxygen use and respiratory care, PATH Malawi, in collaboration with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (NMCM) and the Malawi Ministry of Health, is pleased to announce the launch of the complete Medical Oxygen and Respiratory Care online course for health care practitioners.
This essential course, which can be taken in approximately four hours, is recommended for all health care practitioners to enhance oxygen delivery, improve health care delivery, and save lives. The course is ideal in resource-limited locations, where medical oxygen access remains a challenge.
“The online Medical Oxygen and Respiratory Care training course is a huge step forward in providing health care workers with the knowledge and resources they need to save lives. We are proud to partner with PATH on this initiative, which is a testament to our shared vision and strong partnership,” said Norman Lufesi, Acting Chief of Emergency Critical Care Services, Malawi Ministry of Health.
The course, which enhances health care capacity in medical oxygen use and respiratory care, is accessible through the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA). At completion, users can take an exam and receive a certificate.
To access the course, new users must register (free of charge) on the NMCM-WCEA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) platform here: https://engagement.wcea.education/nmcm. They will be asked to enter their details, such as first name, surname, phone number, email address, and NMCM registration number. Once registered, users can access the CPD platform through the mobile app or on the web: https://cpd.wcea.education/searchOnlineTraining#/training/200891.
The course, which was recently opened for access, is proving to be popular among students and practitioners and has received five-star ratings from more than 100 users. The course has been accessed by over 7,660 users across 32 countries, and there is an evident 29 percent improvement in knowledge by the participants who have completed it.
“This course addresses a gap, which has existed for a long time. We are not surprised by the response it has received, and we encourage those who have not undertaken the course yet to go through the training,” said Eunice Nyirenda, Director of Professional Practice and Conduct, NMCM.
This is one of the initiatives that PATH is taking in partnership with the Malawi government through the Ministry of Health to improve access to medical oxygen and other essential health care for all Malawians.
“By making the training available to a larger audience, we are helping to reduce the gap in medical oxygen management skills, resulting in stronger health care systems and improved patient outcomes,” said Raphael Kayambankadzanja, PATH Malawi Country Representative.
PATH has been working in Malawi since 2015, in the areas of vaccine research, development, and implementation; malaria; data and digital health solutions; supporting healthy markets; and strengthening the evidence base for advocacy and policy.
