The partnership seeks to leverage expertise in vaccine development, digital health systems, and biobanking to advance global health equity and foster innovative solutions in Saudi Arabia and beyond.

Thuwal, Saudi Arabia — PATH and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to establish collaboration and innovation partnerships to transform health care delivery. The MoU was signed by PATH President and CEO Mr. Nikolaj Gilbert and his counterpart KAUST President Prof. Tony Chan.

Under the MoU, PATH will provide specialized expertise to support KAUST's transformative health care delivery initiatives. This includes establishing vaccine manufacturing capabilities, developing digital health systems and tools, and operating a biobank facility. The partnership also aims to promote the commercialization of KAUST-developed technologies, address the impacts of climate change on health, and organize professional training programs in smart health.

PATH’s mission is to advance global health equity through partnerships. In the Middle East, KAUST will be a key partner to accelerate progress towards this goal. As a first step, PATH is working with KAUST to secure a physical presence in the kingdom to facilitate access to researchers and facilities, while providing a foundation for future regional collaborations.

PATH President and CEO, Nikolaj Gilbert said: “There is no global public health equity without delivering for everyone everywhere. We’re excited that through this partnership with KAUST, we have the opportunity to both collaborate in the Middle East for the first time, and advance more equitable access to essential health services globally.”

Prof. Tony Chan, KAUST President states: “This partnership represents a unique opportunity for KAUST to team up with an INGO such as PATH to be part of the global effort to develop the next generation of smart health tools and methods to ensure equal access to health care."
