Join PATH at the 3rd International Conference on Public Health in Africa

November 10, 2023 by PATH

PATH will showcase its innovations and partnerships at the 3rd International Conference on Public Health in Africa, where health leaders will convene to reflect on lessons learned in health and science and to align on a way forward for creating more resilient health systems.

PATH representatives will join regional and global health leaders at the 3rd International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) from November 27 to 30, 2023. The event, which will be held at the Kenneth Kaunda Wing of the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka, Zambia, will look at how Africa is breaking down barriers to universal health coverage, repositioning the continent in the global health architecture, and reaffirming the continent as a powerhouse in science and innovation, gene therapy, and vaccine development.

PATH is accelerating universal health coverage (UHC) by supporting people-centered demand-driven innovation; secure paperless health systems; sustainable integrated health services; and locally-produced medicines and devices. At CPHIA, PATH will showcase how our partnerships, research and development, advocacy work, public health programs, and innovations in primary health care are assisting in breaking down barriers to UHC in Africa. Furthermore, PATH will elevate the critical conversation about climate change and adaptation, as well as the strengthening of health security and the emphasis on local manufacturing as a catalyst for health equity.

The PATH booth marketplace: We invite you to stop by the PATH booth throughout the conference to get a hands-on look at our technologies and interventions for advancing health equity and to speak one-on-one about our #PATH4UHC approach with PATH experts and partners.

PATH’s CPHIA delegation is available for media interviews, speaking engagements, and panel discussions. Send us an email at media@path.org.

OPTIMIZING EXISTING HEALTH TOOLS AND PLATFORMS TO DELIVER NURTURING CARE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE HEALTH SECTOR—EXPERIENCES FROM ETHIOPIA, KENYA, AND MOZAMBIQUE

Time: 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Lusaka time (CAT)

Virtual event: Follow this link to register for the side event.

In Africa, systems-strengthening approaches have been used to promote nurturing care for early childhood development through the health system in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Siaya County (Kenya), and Maputo Province (Mozambique), where all government health facilities and community health workers are providing developmental monitoring and counseling as an integral component of primary health care. Join us as we talk with government leaders from these countries to learn about best practices and lessons learned from real-world examples of the provision of such services at scale. Panelists will also share how public health institutions and the workforce can be strengthened to provide these services, as well as how they may be resourced through enhanced domestic financing and innovative partnerships.

FROM PLEDGES TO PROTECTION: ACCOUNTABILITY FOR COMMITMENTS MADE ON IMMUNIZATION AS A BUILDING BLOCK FOR UHC

Time: 9:00 am to 11:00 am Lusaka time (CAT)

Location: Kafue, New Wing

Immunization is a core component of strengthening health systems and attaining the Sustainable Development Goals. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted immunization service delivery, leading to more children missing life-saving vaccines and more outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. In 2017, African leaders committed to immunization by supporting the Addis Declaration on Immunization (ADI), which aims to ensure that everyone in Africa receives the full benefits of immunization. This policy dialogue will discuss how to fulfill the ADI commitments and leverage immunization as a building block for universal health coverage (UHC) in Africa. The dialogue will also explore how to strengthen public health institutions and the workforce, enhance domestic financing, and foster innovative partnerships for immunization and UHC in alignment with the New Public Health Order.
