We—and by that I mean all of us who long for a more just world—have arrived at a critical turning point. Thanks to a concerted worldwide focus on global health and development during the past 25 years, child and maternal mortality rates have been cut in half. We’ve made dramatic progress against polio, malaria, and tuberculosis. Life expectancy has increased dramatically in many parts of the world. The percentage of people who live in extreme poverty is at historic lows.
Such remarkable progress points the way toward a time when poverty is rare, many major diseases have been eradicated, and most children born into this world have an equal chance to live a healthy and productive life. This is the world envisioned by PATH and by the new United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG targets include an end to hunger; the elimination of preventable childhood deaths; and the eradication of AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis (TB), and neglected tropical diseases—all by 2030.
These are incredibly ambitious goals. To get there, we’ll have to redefine the boundaries of what is possible in global health. This means accelerating the discovery, development, and delivery of breakthrough innovations in health that will transform millions of people’s lives.

PATH has been at the forefront of this effort for nearly 40 years now. From devices that tell health workers when vaccines have been damaged by heat, to new strategies for eliminating malaria, to better diagnostic tools for detecting HIV and TB, our innovations have reached billions of people around the world.
And today, PATH is working on more than 100 promising new interventions that have the potential to prevent millions of unnecessary deaths and help hundreds of millions of people live healthy, productive lives.
