October 2 event highlights the role of family planning in empowering women
PATH will join an October 2 event at Seattle's Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture on the critical importance of improving access to family planning and safe childbirth to improve women's lives around the world.
The event, "Women in Control," will be held from 5:00—7:00 pm at the Burke Museum, NE 45th Street and 17th Avenue NE in Seattle, with the panel discussion beginning at 6 pm. Admission is $5 at the door, free for Burke members and University of Washington students, staff, and faculty with UW identification.
PATH's innovative approach to family planning
The discussion will highlight efforts by PATH, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Open Arms to improve the ability of women to control family size and experience safe childbirth as a strategy to strengthen families and communities.
Dr. Vivien Tsu, PATH's associate director of reproductive health, will join the panel to address PATH's multifaceted approach to family planning that includes improving access to contraception and the development of new contraceptive technologies. The panel will be moderated by Lisa Cohen, director of the Washington Global Health Alliance.
Following the event, guests can tour the museum's Empowering Women exhibit. This traveling exhibit offers a look inside the world of ten female-operated artisan collectives from around the world. Learn more at: http://www.burkemuseum.org/empowering.
