PATH marks Africa Malaria Day

PATH commemorated Africa Malaria Day (April 25) with a policy briefing on Capitol Hill and a special, malaria-focused issue of Directions in Global Health.

Dr. Kent Campbell, program director for PATH’s Malaria Control and Evaluation Partnership in Africa (MACEPA), participated in a policy briefing on Capitol Hill. He described how organizations are working together to respond to the global malaria burden and provided a glimpse into the challenges and opportunities they face. Dr. Campbell was joined by Richard Greene of the United States Agency for International Development and Dr. W. Ripley Ballou of GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals. The purpose of the briefing was to raise awareness of malaria efforts among members of Congress and their staffs and to demonstrate that progress is possible.

The May 2006 issue of Directions in Global Health details PATH's work in malaria prevention and control. The special issue focuses on MACEPA and PATH's Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI), which together address the full spectrum of malaria interventions, from on-the-ground interventions in Zambia to pioneering successes in the development of malaria vaccines. The issue also features an editorial by Awa Marie Coll-Seck, MD, PhD, who serves as the executive director of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership Secretariat and as a member of PATH's board of directors. Read the issue.
