PATH's Dr. Raj Shankar Ghosh recognized by the Indian Public Health Association for his contributions to the field

New Delhi, India, February 7, 2013—Dr. Raj Shankar Ghosh, technical director of PATH’s India country program, was recognized by the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) with the association’s prestigious Honorary Fellowship award in recognition of his important contributions to the public health field.

The award was given by the IPHA’s Central Council at the association’s 57th annual conference on February 1. The Honorary Fellowship award also recognizes Dr. Ghosh’s support, encouragement, and contributions to the IPHA, a professional organization working to protect and promote public health in India since 1956.

Dr. Ghosh has more than 20 years of experience in planning and implementing public health programs in India and South Asian countries. In addition to serving as PATH’s technical director in India, he is director of the multicountry Japanese Encephalitis Project, providing technical assistance to 13 countries in South Asia. 

Previously, he guided the work of the nonprofit drug development program OneWorld Health in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. OneWorld Health became a drug development affiliate of PATH in 2011. Earlier in his career, Dr. Ghosh directed PATH’s immunization work in India and was responsible for planning and implementing the Japanese Encephalitis Project and other work related to primary immunization. 

He also has worked at the state and regional levels in India, including as regional coordinator of the South East Region for the National Polio Surveillance Project of the World Health Organization.

Dr. Ghosh received his medical degree from Calcutta National Medical College.
