Addressing India's health challenges through partnerships and innovation.
Eliminating infectious diseases

We develop and implement new approaches to prevent, manage and eliminate infectious diseases, prepare for potential pandemics, address the challenges of TB, HIV, hepatitis and neglected tropical diseases such as visceral leishmaniasis, lymphatic filariasis, dengue, malaria and reduce mortality due to acute encephalitis syndrome. We provide technical support to various states to implement innovative solutions, institutionalize sustainable engagement models, strengthen surveillance, track and train healthcare workers, and collect and analyze data for these diseases.

Advancing immunization and vaccine access

We work with India’s leading vaccine manufacturers to develop and deliver lifesaving vaccines. We help stakeholders to do preclinical research on new candidates, conduct pivotal clinical evaluations and, ultimately, develop innovative approaches for new vaccine introduction and immunization system strengthening. With our partners, we developed the first- and second-ever Indian vaccines against Rotavirus. We have two decades of experience in advancing Japanese encephalitis immunization services in India. We test the scalability of new cold chain equipment, such as the freeze-preventive vaccine carrier which allows for safe transportation of vaccines.

Improving family health and nutrition

India accounts for 40 percent of the global burden of low-birth weight babies and 17 percent of global maternal deaths. We collaborate with partners to strengthen newborn nutrition and provide essential health care interventions for mothers and babies to improve health outcomes. We enable access to tools to improve accurate screening and diagnosis of illness in children under five. We work with the government to increase access to affordable, high-quality reproductive health supplies. To tackle micronutrient malnutrition and anemia, we work with stakeholders to introduce fortified rice into the government’s food safety net programs.

Driving digital health

We are at the forefront of enabling digital transformation in India. We support the development and implementation of digital tools across public health programs, enhancing programs’ efficiency and the ability to effectively leverage the power of new technologies. We enable cross-learning and knowledge sharing between verticals and across regions by driving digital and data-driven approaches.

Technology, innovations, and health systems

Strengthening public health systems through sustainable innovations and partnerships is an underlying objective at PATH. We integrate and scale up health innovations to improve access to basic healthcare services and enable health systems’ resilience. We also work to enhance urban and rural primary healthcare outcomes, and create a system that integrates with secondary and tertiary care facilities. We strengthen diagnostics services through transformative solutions and devices, and have an expert system integrating platform called the Impact Lab to support the ‘Lab to Market’ journey of innovators. We also support governments in improving disease surveillance and preparing to tackle threats like anti–microbial resistance. We also foster collaboration to strengthen action on climate change and health.

Accelerating health impact across South Asia

PATH’s India team also supports critical health projects in the region. We are spearheading efforts to reduce anti-microbial resistance in Sri Lanka, testing new treatment options against visceral leishmaniasis in Bangladesh and supporting the field trials of cold chain equipment for low resource settings in Nepal.
