We envision a world where health is within reach for everyone
PATH is an international nonprofit organization that transforms global health through innovation. We take an entrepreneurial approach to developing and delivering high-impact, low-cost solutions, from lifesaving vaccines and devices to collaborative programs with communities. Through our work in more than 70 countries, PATH and our partners empower people to achieve their full potential.
Solutions are at hand
Solutions to some of the world’s biggest health problems are at hand. We infuse innovation and collaboration into those solutions to ensure they work in poor as well as rich countries. At PATH, we envision a world where innovation ensures that health is within reach for everyone.
We go where we are most needed—and where we can be most effective. Our work reaches more than 70 countries and responds to the spectrum of global health needs. In particular, we focus on:
- Solutions for emerging and epidemic diseases, like AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
- Health technologies designed for low-resource settings, by the people who will use them.
- Safer childbirth and healthy children.
- Health equity for women, among the world’s most vulnerable—and influential—populations.
- The basic protection of vaccines for women and children around the world.

Our mission
Our mission is to improve the health of people around the world by advancing technologies, strengthening systems, and encouraging healthy behaviors.
We meet the complex health needs of an expanding world with this multipronged approach that moves solutions from innovation to impact: supporting new ideas through inception, development, and testing; paving the way for introduction in low-resource countries; and working with governments and communities to integrate and expand the most successful ideas.
Collaboration is the core
Collaboration is always at the core of our work. We first develop solutions hand in hand with the communities who will use them and then work with a spectrum of partners—including community groups, other nongovernmental organizations, governments, companies, and United Nations agencies—toward impact that is widespread and lasting.
Twenty technologies we have worked on are currently sold and in distribution globally or regionally. Ten are in global use and have had a significant impact on policy, practice, or local capacity for innovation and production.
Private-sector partnership for public good
Partnerships with businesses are a critical and unique element of our approach. Since our founding more than 30 years ago, we’ve enlisted them in our cause whenever and however we could.
Our determination to develop appropriate and affordable health solutions has led to landmark successes, including the development of an affordable meningitis vaccine, better systems for malaria bednet distribution, and integrated strategies for using new vaccines and oral rehydration therapies to prevent and treat diarrheal disease.
The essential role of our donors
All of our donors make it possible for us to invent new health technologies, help governments and businesses build systems that people can depend on, and inspire individuals to protect their own and their families’ health. Our funding comes from foundations; the US Government; other governments, other nonprofit organizations, and multilaterial agencies such as the World Health Organization; and individuals. Individual support plays an especially important role in our ability to innovate.
