This study provides an analysis of the public budget and expenditure for research and development (R&D) in South Africa, with a specific focus on health R&D. It outlines the government’s research agenda and R&D funding trends across all departments, as well as funding and trends for health-specific R&D in the Departments of Health, Science and Technology, and Trade and Industry.
