Poliomyelitis: Intensification of the Global Eradication Initiative

This resolution from the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) calls for a redoubled effort to complete the "end game" of polio eradication. The resolution declares the completion of poliovirus eradication a programmatic emergency for global public health and provides a strategic path forward, with the intent to attract government and donor support. In April 2012, the Executive Board approved this resolution and affirmed that WHO is working in close collaboration with the GAVI Alliance and UNICEF to mobilize resources, especially for the extra cost of inactivated polio vaccine.
