Biological Challenges and Technological Opportunities for Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccine Development
This article, published in Immunological Reviews, provides an overview of the barriers that have challenged and delayed the development of vaccines against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and identifies opportunities that could help overcome these barriers. The author details vaccine technologies that are currently in development, emphasizing that the general immunological goals for these technologies are to induce effective neutralizing antibody to prevent infection and to avoid inducing T-cell response patterns associated with enhanced disease.
