Developing-country health systems are particularly vulnerable

When a pandemic occurs, developing-country health systems may be hardest hit. The irony is that most of the efforts to prepare for a pandemic are concentrated in wealthy countries. PATH is working to help prepare for an outbreak. Our focus includes early warning systems and containment strategies in countries where the risk is greatest—and adequate vaccine supplies for all countries that need them.

A global flu pandemic has happened before, and history indicates that it can certainly happen again. We can’t control that part of the equation, but we can plan a swift, effective response.
