Award honors PATH's leadership on sustainability in Seattle
PATH was honored with a 2014 Sustainability Leadership award in the category of "Transportation Changer" from Sustainable Seattle, one of seven community-nominated businesses, organizations, and individuals recognized for efforts to make Puget Sound a more sustainable and livable place.
PATH has helped change the conversation about road safety for pedestrians, motor vehicle drivers, and bicyclists through a number of workplace initiatives and our involvement with the city's Be Super Safe Seattle road safety campaign. The campaign was launched in 2012 to increase safe behavior on the roads.
In addition, our innovative approach to the design and implementation of our employee transportation program and our commitment to commute trip reduction helped cut PATH staff's drive-alone commute trips by two-thirds between 2009 and 2011 through increased use of alternative modes of transportation.
Building a sustainable community
PATH and other award winners were recognized at a ceremony at the Museum of History and Industry on January 31. Winners were selected by a team of independent judges from more than 50 community-submitted nominations. Other winners were: author Bill Thorness; Farm to Table Partnership; Landis+Gyr; National Wildlife Federation; Seattle Steam; and Theo Chocolate.
Sustainable Seattle is a nonprofit organization bringing individuals, organizations, and businesses together in the greater Seattle area to build a sustainable future through innovation, education, and on-the-ground projects.
