PATH to lead global tuberculosis program
PATH has been awarded a contract with a ceiling of up to US$15 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to support their tuberculosis (TB) control efforts globally. Through this award, PATH will support the Stop TB Strategy by implementing TB and TB/HIV projects in USAID priority countries; providing technical assistance to grants made by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria; training local TB control staff in advocacy, communication, and social mobilization techniques; and addressing multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant TB.
Over the next four years, we will develop, implement, and evaluate TB activities in high-burden countries in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. We’re currently providing long-term technical assistance to Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ukraine to improve the detection of TB cases and completion of TB treatment. Our efforts contribute to the ambitious goal of eliminating TB by 2050.
PATH has more than 25 TB and TB/HIV technical staff based in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe with expertise in all aspects of DOTS, the internationally recommended TB control strategy. Project director D’Arcy Richardson, MSN, is a TB specialist and nurse epidemiologist with more than ten years of experience in international public health and TB control.
