Pneumococcal conference will feature PATH's work
PATH is pleased to help sponsor the Sixth International Symposium on Pneumococci & Pneumococcal Diseases, which takes place in Reykjavik, Iceland, from June 8 through 12. The conference brings together experts from the field to discuss the latest scientific achievements, exchange ideas, strengthen ongoing research, and establish new collaborations on pneumococci and pneumococcal diseases.
Dr. Mark Alderson, director of PATH’s pneumococcal vaccine development project, will present on PATH’s work to advance development of new pneumococcal vaccines for developing-world populations. Eileen Quinn, communications director of PATH’s vaccine development program, will moderate a panel on using evidence to promote awareness to combat pneumococcal disease. PATH will also host a booth in the exhibition hall, and Dr. Jeff Maisonneuve, scientific director of PATH’s pneumococcal vaccine program, will attend the conference.
About pneumococcal disease
Each year, approximately one million children worldwide die from pneumococcal disease. Pneumococcal diseases include pneumonia, bacterial otitis media (middle ear infection), and sepsis (blood infection) and meningitis (brain infection), which kill and disable children in countries around the globe.
