Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce to focus on global health
The Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce has announced a new focus on global health in the upcoming year. The Chamber will hold several events that will examine the activity around global health taking place in Washington State and how this can position the region as a center for global health.
PATH’s president and CEO, Dr. Christopher Elias, delivered the keynote address at the Chamber’s 2008 Regional Leadership Conference this week. Scott Jackson, PATH’s vice president for External Relations, co-chaired the conference and also made remarks. Other speakers included US Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray (D-WA), Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire, and City of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.
The conference addressed global health and focused on the region’s opportunity to be a world leader in the discovery, development, and delivery of lifesaving treatments. The conference also explored how global health became a major industry in the region, how it is benefiting Puget Sound and the state economy, and how leaders can support global health to strengthen the region and significantly enhance and save lives across the planet.
During the conference, the Washington Global Health Alliance (WGHA), for which PATH is secretariat, was launched. The WGHA is working to encourage collaboration among the region’s global health organizations.
