Join PATH at Women Deliver 2013
PATH will feature our many projects to improve women’s health at the Women Deliver 2013 conference May 28–30 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 40 PATH staff will attend the conference, one of the world’s largest gatherings of policymakers, advocates, and researchers focused exclusively on women’s health and empowerment. PATH is proud to be both a Gold Sponsor and an Advisory Group member of the conference.
Women’s health has been a core part of PATH’s work for more than 35 years. At the conference, we will showcase the range of ways we take innovation to scale to save women’s lives, from developing technologies that combat severe bleeding after childbirth to improving methods for detection of breast and cervical cancer, all while responding to countries’ and communities’ specific needs. PATH leaders, program staff, advocacy experts, and recruiters will take part in numerous events to demonstrate our work, discuss our integrated approaches to enhance health equity, and talk about our global efforts to improve women’s health across the lifecycle.
Meet PATH’s experts and see our technologies in the exhibit hall
Conference attendees can get a hands-on look at our technologies, talk one-on-one with our experts, and learn about PATH careers at Booth 262 in Exhibit Hall 5 throughout the conference. Our “Meet the Experts” corner offers a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with Dr. Ayo Ajayi, vice president of international development, Amie Batson, chief strategy officer, Rachel Wilson, senior director of policy and advocacy, and many other PATH staff about our work. Stop by our booth to find out when our experts will be available, and pick up a schedule of PATH’s conference participation and a CD-ROM of our publications.
Our booth will also display our Woman’s Condom, voted one of Women Deliver’s top 50 innovations in women’s health, and our other reproductive and maternal health technologies.
Press conference with Amie Batson
Chief Strategy Officer Amie Batson will take part in a press conference on Thursday, May 30, to address our work on a non-pneumatic antishock garment to treat women experiencing postpartum hemorrhage in low-resource settings. The press conference begins at 2:30 p.m. in Press Room 302.
What’s new in contraceptives
Jane Hutchings, director of PATH’s reproductive health program, will moderate a panel discussion on affordable and acceptable contraceptives on Thursday, May 30. Panelists include senior staff from the Guttmacher Institute, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CONRAD, and the US Agency for International Development. The panel begins at 3:00 p.m. in Conference Hall 3.
Addressing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
Helen McGuire, PATH’s director of noncommunicable diseases, will speak on a panel to explore the growing NCD burden and how prevention and treatment should be integrated into programs and policies to address women’s health. Other panelists include the heads of Population Services International and the GAVI Alliance and senior leaders from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Cancer Society. The session will be on Wednesday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 407.
Techniques and Technologies workshops
PATH is co-sponsoring two days of short, dynamic presentations by global health leaders to showcase best practices for innovative products and tools to improve women’s health. The Techniques and Technologies workshops run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, and from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in Exhibit Hall 5. They feature PATH staff Elizabeth Abu-Haydar, public health specialist, Vivien Tsu, associate director of reproductive health, and Kimberly Whipkey, global advocacy specialist, in addition to staff from many other organizations.
Film festival winners announced
On Tuesday, May 28, PATH will host a film festival to screen the winning entries from our “Female Condoms Are _____” film contest. The winners will be announced at the event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in Room 305. We’ll host an additional screening on Wednesday, May 29, at 4:00 p.m. in the conference’s Cinema Corner.
Maternal health supplies forum
On the eve of the conference, May 27, PATH will cohost an interactive forum for global and national advocates and program implementers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to exchange ideas for how to successfully prioritize essential maternal health supplies. The half-day workshop will focus on ways that advocates can elevate maternal health supplies onto national and international health agendas and ensure these supplies reach more women who need them. The forum runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Rooms 403 and 404 and is open to all conference delegates. To attend, RSVP to maternalhealthsupplies@path.org.
Additional PATH presence
PATH staff presentations and engagement at Women Deliver will explore our range of work in women’s health. They will address postpartum hemorrhage prevention, improved detection and diagnosis for breast cancer, innovative reproductive health technologies, commodity forecasting, prevention of pregnancy-related infections, and strengthening access to contraceptives and other reproductive health supplies.
About Women Deliver
The Women Deliver conference is held every three years and draws thousands of government leaders, policymakers, health care professionals, nongovernmental organization representatives, corporate leaders, journalists, and other participants. This year’s conference includes speeches from Melinda Gates, Chelsea Clinton, GAVI Alliance CEO Seth Berkley, Global Health Corps CEO and cofounder Barbara Bush, and more. The conference will focus on ensuring that the health and rights of women and girls remain top priorities now and for the future.
