Public health officials are vigilantly monitoring the influenza A(H1N1) virus and have urged countries and communities to implement extra preparations. It is time to prepare, but there is no need to panic.

Fortunately, the new virus is treatable with antiviral medications. In addition, public health leaders around the world are accelerating efforts to identify and manufacture appropriate vaccines and reinforce health systems.
