PATH, a three-time Tech Awards Laureate and the 2009 Tech Awards winner for Ultra Rice®, will once again attend the annual Tech Awards Gala in Santa Clara, CA—this time in support of two key partnerships. The gala will recognize 2010 Laureate PharmaJet, a collaborator with PATH on needle-free injection technology, and the partnership between PATH and fellow 2009 Laureate Akshaya Patra.
Our partnership with Akshaya Patra
Since winning the $50,000 Tech Award cash prize in the health category last year, PATH has partnered with fellow 2009 Tech Award Laureate Akshaya Patra to fortify the daily midday meals of 185,000 resource-poor schoolchildren for an entire school year in Rajasthan, India. Each meal will soon be fortified with iron-enriched Ultra Rice, developed by PATH to bridge gaps in dietary intake and prevent malnutrition.
In recognition of this unprecedented partnership between two laureates, the 2010 Tech Awards Gala will feature a live interview with Madhu Sridhar, CEO of Akshaya Patra USA, and Scott Jackson, PATH’s vice president of External Relations, discussing the partnership’s vision of a world free from the hidden hunger of malnutrition.
Our partnership with PharmaJet
PATH will also be in attendance in support of our partner and 2010 Tech Awards Laureate PharmaJet. PATH and PharmaJet are collaborators on a PATH-led effort to advance needle-free injection technologies for developing-country immunization programs. In 2009, PATH partnered with PharmaJet to evaluate a new generation of the disposable-syringe jet injector, a device that has the potential to offer developing countries safe, effective, and affordable injections without the use of needles. PharmaJet was selected as a laureate this year in the health category from among hundreds of nominations representing more than 50 countries.
About the Tech Awards
Established in 2000, the Tech Awards recognize 15 laureates, three in each of five categories: education, equality, environment, economic development, and health. These laureates have developed novel technologies or found innovative ways to adapt existing technologies to benefit humanity and spark global change—significantly improving the health and well being of people throughout the world. This year, the laureate list includes groups and individuals from Brazil, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and the San Francisco Bay Area. One laureate in each category will receive a $50,000 cash prize.
PATH was first honored as a Tech Awards Laureate in 2003 for our Uniject® prefilled injection device, again in 2007 for the vaccine vial monitor, and in 2009 for Ultra Rice.
