See us at the 2011 International Conference on Family Planning

PATH will showcase our work with reproductive health supplies, contraceptive technologies, and family planning services next week at the 2011 International Conference on Family Planning.

The conference will focus on research, best practices, and progress on national strategies to deliver family planning services and provide universal access to family planning. PATH staff will present on our work with oral and injectable contraceptives, the Woman’s Condom, and contraceptive security, as well as our approaches for addressing countries’ family planning needs.

The conference is the second of its kind. It will be held November 29 to December 2 at Le Méridien Président in Dakar, Senegal.

Presentations featuring PATH staff include:

• Developments in contraceptive technologies. Jennifer Kidwell Drake, senior program associate, will participate in a presentation about developing and introducing a new type of oral contraceptive method. Maggie Kilbourne-Brook, program officer, will present on the role of users as codesigners in developing improved female barrier methods. Wednesday, November 30, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Amphitheatre.
• Factors influencing vasectomy and condom use. Patricia Coffey, senior program officer, will present on couples’ use of the Woman’s Condom in China. Wednesday, November 30, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Amphitheatre.
• Depo-subQ in Uniject: long road to a game-changer. Sara Tifft, senior program officer, and Bonnie Keith, senior program associate, will participate in a panel discussion on the introduction of the contraceptive depo-subQ provera 104™ in the Uniject™ injection system. Wednesday, November 30, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Amphitheatre.
• Supporting contraceptive security: data visibility and coordination. John Skibiak, director of the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, whose secretariat is managed by PATH, and Bonnie Keith, senior program associate, will participate in this Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Initiative knowledge-to-action session on using data to improve reproductive health commodity security. Thursday, December 1, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Flamboyant Room.
• Total market initiative. Janet Vail, senior program officer, will chair a panel discussion on total family planning market initiatives. Thursday, December 1, 2:00 p.m to 3:30 p.m., Room C06.
• Addressing unmet need. Ramona Byrkit, head of PATH’s Vietnam Country Program, will discuss unmet family planning needs in Vietnam and the role pharmacies have played in providing family planning services. Friday, December 2, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Salon Saint Louis.
• You can’t do it alone: developing and maintaining effective partnerships and collaborations.Jane Hutchings, head of PATH’s Reproductive Health Global Program, will host a luncheon roundtable discussion for emerging leaders. Friday, December 2, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Le Méridien.
• Getting HIP-ER: high-impact practices in family planning based on evidence and research. In this IBP Initiative knowledge-to-action session, Bonnie Keith, senior program associate, will present on the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition and partnerships for reproductive health commodity security. Friday, December 2, 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., Flamboyant Room.
• Expanding choice, expanding access: bringing four new contraceptives to market. Sara Tifft, senior program officer, will lead this panel discussion on product introduction themes and strategies. Neeti Nundy, commercialization officer, will describe the strategy for introducing the Woman’s Condom, and PATH’s partners will speak about the introduction processes of the PATH-developed SILCS diaphragm and depo-subQ provera 104™ in the Uniject™ injection system. Friday, December 2, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Room C106.

The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition secretariat will host an auxiliary event on the first day of the conference to highlight outcomes from its recent Access for All meeting. The event includes a screening of the multimedia presentation Meeting the Challenge of a New Decade about reproductive health commodity security, a panel discussion about the priority objectives from the meeting’s call to action, and a presentation by the coalition’s Francophone Forum. The event is the culmination of a year’s worth of activities marking the tenth anniversary of a gathering that launched the field of reproductive health commodity security. It will be on Tuesday, November 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in rooms C05 and C06.
