Award honors PATH's efforts to improve the commute
PATH was honored with the 2012 Diamond Award for Organizational Leadership from Commuter Solutions in recognition of our achievements in reducing commute trips in the Puget Sound region. The award recognizes PATH’s innovative approach to the design and implementation of our employee transportation program and our commitment to commute trip reduction.
Between 2009 and 2011, the percentage of PATH employees in Seattle driving alone to work dropped from 52 percent to 17 percent, while the percentage of employees taking the bus rose from 13 percent to 45 percent. The number of employees walking or taking vanpools or rail to work or telecommuting also rose. The figures also reflect PATH’s move from our Ballard location to our South Lake Union headquarters location in January 2010.
A better commute, a healthier environment
PATH and other award winners were recognized at the 19th annual Commuter Solutions Awards event on November 5 at the Legislative Building in Olympia. The Diamond Awards were presented in collaboration with the Washington state Department of Transportation’s award program, the Governor’s Commute Smart Awards.
For 19 years, Commuter Solutions has recognized local organizations and individuals that embrace efforts to reduce commute trips within their workforce. Commuter Solutions is a program of enterpriseSeattle with a mission to protect and sustain the environment through improved regional mobility. Diamond Award winners are leaders in applying innovative strategies to reduce commute trips. Other 2012 Diamond Award winners in the same category include the city of Bellevue, Costco Wholesale, and Parsons Brinckerhoff.
